About Women’s Aid ABCLN
Women’s Aid is the lead voluntary organisation in Northern Ireland providing a domestic and sexual violence service for women and children.
The Women’s Aid movement in Northern Ireland began in 1975 and is made up of 8 regional Women’s Aid Groups of which WA ABCLN is one.
WA ABCLN covers the areas of Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey offering a range of specialist services to women, children and young people who have experienced domestic violence. Our services include provision of confidential one to one support, education and emergency accommodation for women and children across the communities we operate in. We also provide specialist services and support for children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse and our ‘Older But No Safer’ programme offers awareness and greater protection for older women aged 55 and over.
Our services are developed in response to the needs of women and children affected by domestic abuse and by listening and responding to their needs, our staff have built up a wealth of experience and expertise. We believe that no-one should have to live in fear or threat from abuse and together with our partners, sponsors and our dedicated staff, we are working towards ending domestic abuse.
As the need for our services continues to grow and funding becomes progressively more difficult to secure, we recognise the survival of our organisation will increasingly depend on our ability to generate income and become more self-sufficient. Securing the future of WA ABCLN will be the most important part of our 2023/24 Strategy and developing a Social Enterprise Strategy will be a key responsibility of the new incoming CEO.
