Energy Markets Analytics Manager

Location: Belfast (Hybrid – 3 days in-office / 2 days remote)
Salary: Highly Competitive + Strong Benefits Package

The Opportunity

VANRATH is delighted to be partnering with SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland) to recruit an Energy Markets Analytics Manager— a high-impact leadership role central to the future of Northern Ireland’s energy transition.

As the Energy Markets Analytics Lead, you’ll manage a team of skilled analysts delivering key insights to shape electricity market design, regulatory strategy, and system transformation. This is a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of energy innovation and help deliver real change in a dynamic, regulated environment.

SONI operates Northern Ireland’s electricity transmission system, ensuring power flows safely, securely, and reliably. Working at the heart of the all-island energy market, SONI is leading critical infrastructure and policy changes in line with ambitious net-zero goals.

Their focus is not only on system reliability but also on shaping the electricity market of tomorrow through collaboration, innovation, and data-driven strategy. This role is a strategic addition to their Future Power Markets team, supporting the delivery of SONI’s Shaping Our Electricity Future road-map.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of analysts focused on electricity market design, regulatory analysis, and future system modelling.

  • Deliver market and policy insights to support key programmes across SONI and the wider EirGrid Group.

  • Engage with stakeholders including government, regulators, TSOs, and industry participants to support collaborative market development.

  • Plan and deliver strategic analytics projects, producing reports and recommendations to guide SONI’s future market position.

  • Ensure project delivery is aligned with compliance, transparency, and stakeholder needs.

  • Mentor junior analysts and build internal capability through knowledge sharing and coaching.

  • Provide technical support across market integration, balancing arrangements, and cross-border initiatives.

What You’ll Need

Essential Criteria:

  • A relevant third-level qualification (e.g. engineering, economics, or energy systems) and 8+ years’ experience in a commercial or regulated environment.

  • Proven track record in managing teams and complex projects with competing priorities.

  • Deep understanding of electricity market structures, system planning, and market operations.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in modelling, scenario planning, and policy analysis.

  • Ability to lead stakeholder engagement, present findings clearly, and influence decision-making.

  • Strategic thinker with strong communication and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within the Single Electricity Market (SEM) or European power markets.

  • Knowledge of market/network codes, balancing and transmission mechanisms.

  • Background in a regulated utility or energy organisation.

  • Project management experience across multi-disciplinary programmes.

What's on Offer

  • A career-defining opportunity with a national energy leader.

  • Hybrid working model with flexibility and autonomy.

  • Highly competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Chance to lead at the cutting edge of energy market transformation.
