Senior Lecturer - Education with Primary World Around Us & ICT

SALARY: £49,559 - £57,422 per annum

JOB PURPOSE: The post holder will contribute to the work of the World Around Us area of learning (Geography), and ICT in the primary classroom through both teaching and research and scholarly activity. They will be expected to demonstrate commitment and an innovative approach to this area of work in order to enhance the University College’s profile and meet the needs of its key stakeholders. The person appointed will be expected to make a positive contribution to achieving the goals set out in the University College’s Corporate Plan.

REPORTING TO: Head of Academic Area

Main Duties and Accountabilities

Teaching

1.1 Contribute to the teaching and examining of a range of modules across all Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programmes informed by ongoing scholarship, contributing to modules:

  • In the specific area of World Around Us (Geography) for BEd Primary
  • In Education Studies
  • In Professional Studies
  • In the use of ICT in the primary classroom.

1.2 Contribute to development and teaching linked to Continuing Professional Development and Master’s level;

1.3 Contribute to the development of innovative approaches to teaching and curriculum development, informed by pedagogical scholarship;

1.4 Supervise, assess and provide tutorial support to students on placements, traveling to placement settings as required;

1.5 Deal with pastoral care issues for students within own area in line with University College procedures, referring to University College Student Support as appropriate;

Scholarship & Research

2.1 Contribute to the College’s research and scholarship profile in line with the strategic objectives set out in the Corporate Plan;

2.2 Engage in scholarly activity such as assisting in production of books, contributions to books, articles and conference papers in order to maintain and develop teaching and subject expertise;

2.3 Contribute to and collaborate in research activity and disseminate findings through publication and/or conference presentations and/or public engagement activities.

Administration

3.1 Attend and participate in meetings of Module/Programme Teams, Cross-College Teams/Committees and Boards of Examiners and undertake associated administration;

3.2 Assist in the recruitment and selection of students by, inter-alia, co-operating in recruitment events and the interviewing process;

3.3 Participate in the administration and supervision of examinations as required.

Planning & Organising

4.1 As module co-ordinator, co-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure modules are delivered to a high standard;

4.2 Participate in module, programme and internal and external periodic review and in peer review of teaching;

4.3 Contribute to the development and implementation of College policies.

Internal & External Relationships

5.1 Build academic networks for exchange of information and promoting collaborative research including identification of research funding and forming relationships for future research collaboration;

5.2 Maintain good relations with appropriate best practice placement settings and serving teachers/other professionals associated with College courses;

5.3 Contribute to the College’s international and community development strategies;

5.4 Support the College’s reputational development through participation in College events and acting as a College ambassador.

Knowledge and Expertise

6.1 Participate in College appraisal and staff development activities;

6.2 Proactively engage in continuing professional development;

6.3 Be familiar with and adhere to University College policies and procedures.
