Our client is a vibrant, successful and growing family business within the agri / horticulture sector in Northern Ireland.
As an independent, family-run business, they have carved out a successful niche as a supplier of choice. Due to ongoing expansion, a superb opportunity has arisen for a motivated, people orientated General Manager to play a key role in the current and future growth and success of the business.
This will be both a hands-on and strategic role and as such the successful applicant will be equally comfortable in front of the owners, customers and production/packing staff. Excellent communication skills will be essential as will the desire to build a long-term career with a company that will reward excellence and performance.
KEY DUTIES
- Plan, organise, direct and control the packing of flowers and vegetables
- Manage staff (15-20) in packaging and production department to ensure products are despatched to tight deadlines
- Provide “hands on” assistance in working with the wider production/packing team to continuously ensure targets are met and client orders are completed on time
- Follow the correct procedure for harvesting and packing products to ensure quality is at its highest and correct packaging is used
- Inform Directors and fellow managers re product issues, breakages or machinery failures which occur
- Train new team members within your team
- Help the day-to-day activity of the business to ensure smooth and efficient running
- Manage and negotiate requirements with suppliers/customers re price, quality, availability etc
- Attend and contribute to management meeting, both operational and strategic, and be confident producing reports and financial reports
- Oversee all on-site health and safety and ensure compliance
- Contribute to staff recruitment, training, appraisals and performance reviews
- Work closely with the Directors on future strategic plans
THE PERSON
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience as an Operations or General Manager ideally within a small/mid size company with a hands-on background
- Ideally from a Food, Horticulture or FMCG background although other sectors will be considered
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent people management and motivational skills
- Enjoys developing people and acting as a mentor to staff to help grow their potential
- Strong IT, financial and paperwork skills
- Enjoys implementing and improving systems and process and adapting to new technologies
- Looking for a long-term career opportunity
- Knowledge/interest in 2 second lean an advantage or willing to learn
SALARY
An attractive salary within the range of £40k - £50k per annum will be on offer to the successful candidate. This is negotiable depending on experience and what you can bring to the business long term.
