Lead Software Engineer

MCS Group is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for a scaling technology company with a truly unique product. Established over 7 years ago, the business will grow to 100 employees by the end of 2025 and count some of the world's most recognisable brands as customers. Their Software Engineering team today is close-knit and will afford an experienced Software Engineer with experience in Java and Cloud technologies a proper technical challenge day-to-day in a fast-paced organisation.

The is a perfect opportunity for an experienced Java Developer who is seeking autonomy in their role, the chance to work on an interesting product and the chance to shape the engineering culture or a growing technology team!

The Role:

• The Principal Engineer will lead the design and architecture of complex, high-scale applications using Java and AWS.

• Yiu'll set engineering best practices and drive adoption of cloud-native solutions.

• You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams (interfacing with product and work closely with hardware engineering teams) to deliver robust, scalable, and secure systems.

• You'll provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of innovation in this scaling business.

• You'll stay ahead of industry trends, seeking to continuously improve the tech stack and engineering processes.

The Person

• Expertise in Java (latest versions), Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.

• Strong experience with AWS.

• Proven track record in designing distributed, scalable systems.

• Leadership experience in mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence.

• Any exposure to working closely with or adjacent to hardware or firmware teams will really beneficial (and it would be extremely advantageous if you had exposure to writing C code - or the ability to read it - earlier in your career).

Salary

• Up to £85,000 with a competitive benefits package which includes 10% bonus and share options.
