Post: Grounds Maintenance Person
Responsible to: Bursar through Facilities Manager
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Job Purpose The person appointed shall be responsible for the maintenance of the school grounds and sports facilities under the direction of the Facilities Manager. The successful applicant will be expected to use their own initiative to carry out the role effectively and efficiently, planning their time well, to ensure that the grounds and sports facilities are maintained to a very high standard.
Essential Criteria
The following are essential criteria which will initially be measured at the shortlisting stage, and which may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage:
•Have relevant experience of working in a grounds maintenance role.
•Demonstrable awareness/knowledge of Health and Safety requirements relevant to amenity horticulture and the safe use of machinery/equipment.
•Demonstrate knowledge of the role of a Grounds Person and relevant machinery.
•Hold a full, current valid driving licence (with own vehicle used for transporting petrol cannisters etc for machinery).
•Be physically fit and able.
Desirable Criteria
Some or all of the desirable criteria may be applied by the Selection Panel in order to determine a manageable pool of candidates. Desirable criteria will be applied in the order listed. You should make it clear on your application form how, and to what extent you meet the desirable criteria, as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted.
•Hold an NVQ Level 1 in Horticulture, IOG National Certificate or an equivalent or higher-level qualification relevant to amenity horticulture, OR
have relevant experience of working in a grounds maintenance setting in a large estate.
•Demonstrate knowledge of the maintenance requirements of sports pitches.
•Have worked in a school environment in a similar role.
•Hold Pesticide Application Certificates PA1, PA2 and PA6 or confirm willingness to obtain these certificates.
•Have worked in environments requiring the maintenance of sports facilities and general grounds maintenance for 1 year or more.
•Demonstrate ability to carry out minor maintenance projects.
