The Electoral Commission is an independent body that makes sure elections in the UK are fair, open, and well run. They are there to ensure its integrity as well as help everyone understand how to vote and feel confident in taking part. They also regulate the money that political parties and campaigners spend and receive, checking it is fair, transparent, and legal.
The Commission has over 200 staff, based across the UK with offices in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast. Their statutory responsibilities are integral to the electoral system – whether regulating political finance laws; providing oversight, guidance, or support on the delivery of elections; supporting voters to engage with the democratic process with confidence; or providing evidence and insights to inform future improvement. Working with others, the Electoral Commission strives to improve the electoral system for the benefit of voters, campaigners, and electoral administrators.
Reporting to the Manager of the Electoral Commission, this new role of Senior Electoral Administration Officer is integral to operations and is responsible for developing and delivering resources to support the increased efficiency and effectiveness of the administration of electoral events and electoral registration in Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will be required to develop and co-ordinate the Electoral Commission’s guidance and advice on electoral practice issues to ensure the highest standards in the delivery of electoral events and electoral registration in Northern Ireland.
While it would be an advantage, it is not essential to have experience of supporting electoral services. You must be able to demonstrate experience in delivering guidance, training or advice services; experience of working with legislation and the ability to offer advice to others on its application.
