Client:
Our client is a well-respected Property Services Contractor that have been operating for approximately 50 years. They specialise in property alterations and modifications, damage restoration and maintenance projects. They work with Social and Private Housing clients, Property Management Companies, Care Homes, Schools, Councils and Commercial Buildings.
Overview of Role:
The Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will be working under the direction and guidance of the Head of Contracts and Senior QS, assisting with the commercial management of Social Housing Maintenance contracts, including site remeasurement, cost management and preparation and submission of costs for individual works orders ranging from minor reactive works through to large scale refurbishment and maintenance projects. This is a great opportunity that will provide the opportunity to work across several contracts and departments to give exposure to various elements, supported by structured, mentored training, providing excellent opportunities for career development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimating, preparation and submission of job costs
- Assist with the preparation of Cost Value Reconciliation reports
- Recording and keeping of measurements and records for submission in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy compliance with all relevant documentation i.e. certificates/ photographs before submission for payment.
- Survey and remeasurement of works on site
- Issuing contract correspondences in line with processes and timelines
- Work in accordance with client KPI's particularly Time, Cost and Quality
- Taking off of quantities from project drawings and specifications
- Ensure contract administration, quality and valuation of works are in accordance with the contract specifications, whilst achieving business commercial delivery
- Assist with procuring and managing of subcontractor delivery, building strong client and supply chain relationships by working in a collaborative manner
- Comply with all health and safety rules and protocols to ensure the safety of yourself and others
- To perform the job in accordance with the company's policies and procedures, especially the Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work Policy
- Assisting with operational and commercial management of projects
- Provide contractual and cost advise to operational management and staff
- Procurement and cost management of Subcontractor packages
- Ensure detailed records of works are recorded and maintained, that are accurate and auditable and available for submission as required in a timely manner
- Surveys and costing of proposed works and remeasurement of completed works
- Assist with quality audit of works from site records to ensure works have been completed to client instructions and contract specifications
- Preparation and submission of job costs in line with the contract Schedule of Rates
- Monitoring of internal KPIs ensuring all targets are achieved and maintained
- Build strong client and supply chain relationships by working in a collaborative manner with good communication channels, ensuring resolutions, repeat business and service
- Estimating and preparation of tenders
- Comply with all health and safety rules and protocols to ensure the safety of yourself and others
- Undertake training and attend meetings as required and for the proper performance of your duties.
The Ideal Person:
Education/ Experience:- Working towards achieving a Construction related Foundation degree or similar
- Effective time and task management
Skills/ Competencies:- Strong team-working and interpersonal skills
- Robust planning and organisation skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a cross functional team to complete tasks under strict deadlines
- A self-motivated individual with a logical approach to problem solving
- IT literate, proficient in Microsoft Office
