Role: Social Work Assistant – Temporary – Belfast
Job Overview
VANRATH are delighted to support one of Belfast’s most recognisable public sector employers who are actively seeking a Social Work Assistant to join their team on an initial interim basis. The Social Work Assistant will support social work managers in delivering services to children and families, assisting with tasks assigned by the Social Work Team Manager, and ensuring ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work with children and/or parents/carers in line with support/protection/care plans, assist in delivering services, attend meetings, and contribute to reports.
- Coordinate family support, diversionary, and respite services, and source appropriate resources while supporting assessments and reporting information to assist in decision-making.
- Assist with practical tasks for children and parents/carers, such as transport, advice on parenting, behaviour management, and form filling, while supervising contact arrangements and ensuring documentation is completed.
- Report any child protection concerns to the Team Manager/Social Worker and assist with administrative tasks, including referrals, meeting arrangements, and liaising with other agencies.
- Maintain clear records, provide written reports as needed, and participate in supervision while ensuring practice aligns with NISCC codes of conduct.
- Continuously develop skills through supervision and training, adhering to Trust policies on Health and Safety, equality, data protection, and professional conduct.
Essential Criteria:
Experience/Qualifications
- NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 3 in a care-related subject and 1 year’s experience in a social care role;
- OR NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 2 in a care-related subject and 2 years’ experience in a social care role;
- OR 4 GCSEs (Grades A-C) and 3 years’ experience in a social care role.
- Be registered with the NISCC on the Social Care part of the register or be eligible for immediate registration.
- Hold a current full driving licence valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment (or approved transport if unable to drive).
