Senior Technician

Act as a Senior Technician in the School of Biological Science in the Sustaining Ecosystems and Biodiversity (SEB) Research Theme with the responsibility for managing fieldwork and associated multifunctional research laboratories, associated space and select items of shared equipment.
This post is responsible for planning the resource needs and facilitating the day-to-day operation of general field and laboratory facilities and associated equipment, health and safety procedures and related activities.

About the person

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Academic and or vocational qualifications i.e. HNC/HND, NVQ level 4 or equivalent standard in a relevant subject (Biological Sciences, Environmental Biology, Ecology, Zoology or Marine Biology or other explicitly related subject area). OR,
  Substantial relevant experience working in a multi-functional research and/or teaching environment within the above listed disciplines. AND,
• Hold a full Driving licence
• Have at least 4 years recent work experience in a multi-functional research and/or teaching environment to include:
  • Provision of technical support;
  • Demonstrable working experience of biological-related field work;
  • Significant oversight of multi-functional laboratory;
  • Practical experience of liaising with staff and/or students
  • Experience of health and safety procedures relevant to the post;
  • Competence in the use and care of a range of field and/or laboratory equipment and processes.
  • Provision of training in the use of equipment and techniques in a relevant area.
