Senior Commercial Lawyer

The legal team is an integral part of the Chief Executive’s Office led by the General Counsel and Company Secretary.

The role of Senior Commercial Lawyer is highly specialised, providing business focused legal advice on Corporate and Commercial Law including Procurement Law, high value contracts, PPP and PFI projects, NEC construction contracts and complex services contracts. Advice is provided to the Board, Executive Committee, Procurement Committee, the General Counsel and Company Secretary, and at all levels across NI Water.

The Senior Commercial Lawyer is NI Water’s sole internal legal expert on complex commercial contracts (advising on NI Water’s key strategic capital and operational contracts), with a particular emphasis on Procurement Law, both contentious and non contentious. The post-holder must also possess a working knowledge of PPP and PFI contracts and NEC construction contracts.

Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate in their application and where necessary at interview:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

1. Solicitor or Barrister qualified to practice in Northern Ireland, England and Wales or Republic of Ireland.

2. Minimum 5 years’ PQE in Corporate and Commercial Law with strong experience in one or more of the following areas: Procurement Law, Commercial Law including high value contracts, PPP and PFI contracts, NEC construction contracts; complex services contracts.

3. Excellent drafting and communication skills

4. Excellent negotiating skills

5. Dispute resolution experience to solve complex legal matters from a strategic and operational perspective.
