A leading public sector organisation is seeking a skilled Civil Project Engineer to join their team. This role is integral to the maintenance and development of key public infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering a range of civil engineering and construction projects as part of ongoing capital and operational expenditure plans.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced civil engineer with project management expertise to contribute to large-scale public sector infrastructure projects while ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project sponsors and business units in identifying project needs and requirements.
- Analyse data to establish clear objectives and success measures.
- Lead and coordinate option assessment and feasibility studies.
- Manage projects through the necessary governance processes, ensuring compliance with public sector regulations.
- Provide technical engineering insight and analysis.
- Oversee the coordination, implementation, and control of engineering projects, covering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning/handover.
- Ensure clear and consistent communication across all project phases using best practice project controls.
- Manage and resolve issues with stakeholders, design teams, and contractors to optimise project outcomes.
- Ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are identified and managed within project governance frameworks.
- Promote a culture of safety as a fundamental component of successful project delivery.
Essential Criteria
- BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering or related degree
- At least five years of experience in engineering and construction projects.
- Knowledge and experience in applying CDM Regulations.
- Familiarity with procurement, tender documentation, and standard conditions of contract (e.g., JCT, FIDIC, ICC, NEC).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software packages.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it).
- Eight years of post-graduate experience, including a lead role on significant engineering projects.
- Experience in large-scale public infrastructure projects.
- Background in project management, design, and site-based practical experience.
- Experience in estimating and budget control.
- Understanding of the planning system and environmental assessments.
- Knowledge of asset management and structural inspections.
