Role
The Site Supervisor/Site Engineer is directly responsible for ensuring that all works carried out on site are to standards and conducted safely. This may include civils & construction, streetworks & utilities, and construction of underground/ground mounted electricity networks being installed in a safe and professional manner to NERS standard and in accordance with Charles Brand Method Statements. Elements of expertise will include NWSRA, NIRUAC, CSCS, Civil Engineering, IOSH, CDM, Sub Contractor and Direct Labour management amongst others.
This role would suit someone who wishes to progress towards Project Management in the future or a Qualified Civils Engineer who wishes to advance their experience and education.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible to Qualified Supervisor
• To work safely at all times and ensure safety of all those working around them
• To be able to recognise danger and suspend work activities until safe to proceed
• To carry out a formal risk assessment of the workplace, record accurately and brief staff appropriately
• To be suitably trained to carry out works within the public adopted highway
• To ensure appropriate supervision of staff and sub-contractors
• To have an understanding of civils construction, cable & multi utility networks
• To be effectively administer first aid
• To review and understand work instructions prior to any work commencement
• To have a good understanding of plans and drawings
• To oversee excavation of cable trenches and joint bays (power/fibre/other utility) using handheld tools and equipment
• To oversee excavation of cable trenches and joint bays (power/fibre/other utility) using mechanical excavators
• To oversee low voltage mains and service cables
• To oversee high voltage cables installation to specification
• To oversee civils construction projects for infrastructure
• To control reinstatement to NIRAUC standards
• To attend team meetings and toolbox talks
• To work in a safe, efficient and competent manner
• To comply with the requirements of the Charles Brand Health and Safety, Quality and Environment policies.
• To report all accidents and near misses.
• To work in accordance with all Charles Brand procedures and policies
• To record accurately details of work undertaken.
Essential Criteria
• Proven record of Supervision of staff and sub-contractors
• NRSWA for Supervisors
• Signing, lighting & guarding for Supervisors
• CSCS Supervisor Card
• Interpretation of plans & records
• Manual handling training
• Clean driving license
• First Aid (advanced 3 day)
• Risk assessment training/IOSH
• Experienced in civils engineering projects
• Experience of utilities in the public highway
• Ability to pass security clearance checks
• Understanding of 1:500 plans
• Track record of technical & civils project delivery.
Preferred Criteria
• Basic Electrical Safety Training/previous NERS Passport/DNO authorisation
• Demonstrated Civils Engineering qualification.
• Demonstrated experience working on or adjacent to live electricity networks within the Electrical Distribution Industry
• Demonstrated Cable Laying experience
• Demonstrated experience working in the utility sector
• Civils Engineering Degree or qualification, HND/HNC Electrical Mechanical Engineer or high previously held DNO authorisations.
• Temporary Works Co-ordinator and/or Supervisor accreditation
• IOSH Managing Safely and/or NBOSH Construction Certification
