Our client based in Lisburn is looking for a Scientific Officer to join their team
Job Description:
- Scientific officers will be required undertake river and farm inspections to assist in identifying water quality pressures within the Lough Neagh catchment area particularly in relation to Agricultural and industrial premises.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scientific Officers will undertake fieldwork / investigations at several predetermined sites throughout the Neagh Catchment which accounts for 43% of Northern Ireland however work outside of the Lough Neagh catchment area may be required at times.
This post holder will be responsible for undertaking additional cross compliance inspections within the Lough Neagh catchment area including collating data, conducting on farm inspections and contributing to wider WMU and DAERA business targets.Supporting water pollution investigations and taking appropriate enforcement action e.g. identification of remedial works, prosecutions and breaches. Supporting the implementation of IT within the team. Liaising with WMU, DAERA, and stakeholders particularly those from the agricultural community. Contributing to developing, implementing and delivering a programme of catchment work in order to achieve and/or maintain ‘good’ water quality status in the Lough Neagh catchment; Ensuring a high level of compliance with Health and Safety policies and standards; Providing high quality and timely responses to Private Office, Freedom of Information, Environmental Information and customer requests; Providing technical and scientific support to the HSO
- Regular checks and audit of NIEA vehicles.
- Driving NIEA vehicles from a vehicle pool to collect samples from pre-agreed sites.
- Staff will be expected to be able to drive as they will have access to a vehicle supplied for their field duties.
Essential Criteria:- 5 GCSEs including maths and english (certificate proof required)
- Science or 2 science subjects to include chemistry, biology, physics, geography, Agriculture.
- Hold a full Category B driving licence valid for NI.
- A knowledge of GIS, Excel and database use would be an advantage.
- Experience in undertaking site inspections / audits would be an advantage.
- Experience in working in a regulatory environment would be an advantage.
Wage:- £15.97ph (weekly)

Length Of Assignment:
- 6 months with the possibility of an extension.
Work Pattern:
- 9 - 5 Monday to Friday with flexible working within NICS core business hours.
