Honeycomb Jobs is delighted to be partnering with Relatives for Justice, to recruit a part time (22hrs) Advocacy Caseworker based in Belfast.

The Client – Relatives for Justice provides emotional and practical support for individuals and families who have been directly bereaved or injured as a result of the conflict, or a carer for someone who has been injured.

The Role: This credible position is funded by PEACEPLUS. The objective of this Theme & Investment Area is to contribute to the creation of a more cohesive society through an increase in the provision of Health and Wellbeing and Advocacy Support for victims and survivors.

This post reports into the Advocacy Casework Manager and would have an annual salary of £33,945 (pro-rata) with fantastic holiday allowance. Application deadline of 28th February 2025 at 12pm. Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Provide support to bereaved families and those injured, seeking truth and justice in relation to the experience of conflict related violations.
  • Research and collate information from families, official, and public sources into a single accessible record/reports based on the evidence acquired with a view to assisting families to make relevant submission/representations; or for family archive purposes, such as family report.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive information/advice on historic cases, including information on any emergent transitional justice/truth recovery mechanisms.
  • Provide practical support to families as they engage with statutory or other bodies.
  • Identify themes and patterns of violations and support groups of families in pursuit of thematic remedy.
  • Maintain and update files on each case, ensuring all files are properly archived and recorded.
  • Organise meetings with client groups and/or families for the purposes of sharing information or planning events.
  • Help plan and organise conferences, meetings etc. as relevant to the work of Relatives for Justice.
  • To provide positive referrals for appropriate family support.
  • To liaise and network with other providers in order to be able to signpost families to appropriate internal and external services.
  • To maintain high levels of confidentially, in accordance with RFJ polices.
  • To monitor and review the work carried out with families and individuals bereaved and/or injured as a result of the conflict within the RFJ casework area.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • A relevant degree plus 1 year experience providing advocacy and advice to vulnerable clients.

OR

  • 4 years' experience providing advocacy and advice to vulnerable clients.

AND

  • A minimum of 2 years' practical experience collating information, writing reports and analysing complex information.
  • A minimum of 2 years' practical experience of effectively managing complex client interactions.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working and building relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluating outputs and outcomes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with initiative, including effective prioritisation of tasks and ability to work to agreed aims and objectives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of ICT including all Microsoft Office applications (word, excel, outlook, internet etc.).
  • Excellent understanding of impact of the conflict on victims and survivors.
  • Excellent understanding of legal frameworks for Victims and Survivors including the Legacy Act, and transitional processes for victims of the conflict.
  • A commitment to the ethos and values of Relatives for Justice.
  • Hold a full license valid in the UK with access to a car. This criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to make alternative arrangements.
