About your next employer
The post holder will provide a professional, creative and comprehensive graphic design service, which develops and enhances the corporate style and branding. To support the Design and Multimedia Team in the delivery of highly creative on and off-line design service and to produce excellent use of graphics, layout, typography, and colour for use in communications and design across all aspects of design, communications and marketing.
What you’ll do
- Develop and maintain the design principles, brand and style.
- Provide a comprehensive and highly creative on and off-line design service, its departments, associated agencies and other organisations, where appropriate, to include literature and publications, banners, exhibitions stands etc.
- Assist with the delivery of an annual business plan and budget for Graphic Design Service, in line with overall businesses objectives to include maximising revenue generation.
- Ensure adherence to the professional branding. In particular, comprehensively assist with all aspects of the corporate branding, Borough-specific tourism branding and all sub-brands of the services, including development, implementation and review of brand guidelines.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Graphic Design strategies related to all aspects of the policies and activities requiring this service.
- Contribute to the internet/intranet team and advise on visual layout and the websites together with online communications in a downloadable format.
- Assist with design and layout responsibilities for high profile events or projects e.g. Freedom of the Borough, award ceremonies, major exhibitions etc.
- Comply with the purchasing process for all print jobs and ensure that best value is being achieved in terms of quality and cost effectiveness.
- Competently use HTML, CSS, Adobe Suite of design software, and JavaScript.
- Contribute to an effective storage system for artwork files and image stock to ensure that documents can be easily accessed and amended, and that an effective back-up system is in place.
- Keep up-to-date with digital technologies and developments in order to predict future trends to assist in driving them forward as a leader in these forms of communications.
- Ensure standards are maintained in relation to online content including compliance with legislation and guidelines e.g. accessibility standards.
- Undertake any other relevant duties that may be required and are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
About you
Essential:
- Third level qualification in Graphic Design/Visual Communications Web Design, Digital Media, Communications/IT, Marketing/IT or similar.
- Two years’ experience to include:
- Use of a range of design software packages such as:
- InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, Adobe, Acrobat or equivalent packages;
- Use of design principles (eg typography, layout, colour);
- Desktop publishing and use of associated software packages;
- Use of Apple operating system;
- Planning and costing jobs from concept to print.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages;
- Excellent understanding of concept to print processes including largescale print production;
- Ability to learn new technical skills and understand new and developing software, applications and features;
Desirable:
- Experience of website development and design and associated software packages;
- Email marketing using platforms such as Mail Chimp etc.
