VANRATH is delighted to be working with a prominent and well-established Belfast business to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to become part of a well-established finance team. This role will initially be on a 12 month contract basis with potential for extension.

What you'll do

The Assistant Accountant will work closely with the other members of the finance team and other departments, to provide an efficient and effective finance function, accurate financial and management reporting and adherence to the organisations financial policies and procedures. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of management accounts, processing of weekly payroll and maintenance of the purchase and sales ledger.

  • Responsibility for management accounts, including prepayments, general accruals and other relevant journal entries.
  • Preparation of analytical review, detailing explanation for variations against budget and prior year.
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring all supporting documentation is retained in the monthly management accounts folder.
  • Management of the intercompany accounts, including responsibility for monthly intercompany recharge invoices and payments.
  • Management of the purchase and sales ledger, including reconciliation and posting of company credit card transactions, ensuring accuracy of recording and prompt payments and receipts.
  • Processing of monthly payment runs, including supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Assisting with month end close.
  • Preparation and payment of weekly wages in accordance with statutory requirements and processing of associated HMRC returns, including weekly RTI returns.
  • Preparation and posting of weekly payroll related journals.
  • Ongoing monitoring of pension enrolment for weekly paid staff, including review and submission of weekly pension contributions.

About You

Essential Qualifications • IATI qualified or minimum part qualified accountant in a recognised accountancy body such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAI or ICAEW with at least two years’ recent finance experience in a relevant finance environment.
Essential Experience
• A minimum of two years’ recent management accounts experience including prepayments/ accruals and control account reconciliations.
• A minimum of one year’s recent experience of processing/overseeing purchase ledger and supplier payment runs.
• A minimum of one year’s recent work experience of processing/reviewing weekly payroll and a sound knowledge of payroll and pension legislation.
• A minimum of one years’ recent work experience of reconciling and preparing VAT returns.
