cleaning duties on behalf of our client to work in Newry Public Sector

Hourly Rate: £11.67 in addition holiday hours
accrued and paid

Hours: 37.5
hours but spread across 2 sites – one in morning and one in afternoon (equally
18.75 in each site). Sites are walking distance to each other if person does
not drive.

Main duties and responsibilities:
The Cook will work closely with other staff
members in providing a caring environment and will be responsible for the preparation
and cooking of meals and the maintenance and cleanliness of the kitchen and
other areas of the home, as well as other duties appropriate to the role. The
objective is to care for young people (10-18 years) in a planned, therapeutic
and homely environment.
Criteria:

Have a minimum of 1
years’ previous experience of cooking meals in a paid capacity.

Have completed Level 2 Award in Food Safety
in Catering OR be willing to attend
this training on commencement
Duties:
·
Preparation
of meals and snacks and assist with food service to young people. This will include purchasing, preparing and
cooking healthy, nutritious meals from scratch and reheating food when
required, i.e. cook-chill.
- Complete all relevant
temperature records including fridge, delivery, cooking and reheating
records.
- Encourage
the young people to participate in meal preparation and menu planning, as
well as washing and tidying up.
- General kitchen duties to include cleaning and
disinfecting work surfaces and floors, loading/ unloading dishwasher and
putting away of items.
- Undertake
domestic duties within the home including laundry and cleaning e.g. daily,
weekly and periodic maintenance of surfaces to include floors, ,
furniture/upholstery, fittings, surrounds and equipment, telephones,
mirrors, shelving, high surfaces,
doors, paint work, tiles, partition glass, domestic cleaning
equipment, waste disposal, and all sanitary fittings (i.e. all toilet and
shower rooms).
- Empty and clean waste
receptacles, removal of waste bags and placement for collection. This
includes an active role in ensuring the home engages in recycling and
disposing of waste appropriately.
- In
consultation with the Team Leader formulate a work rota/cleaning schedule
to ensure that all areas of work are addressed and then follow
cleaning methods and work schedules as required.
- Take
responsibility for the purchase and ordering of food items and cleaning
materials. This includes
management of a budget for household items (alongside person in charge)
and recording of any expenditure as appropriate.
- Replenish supplies of toilet
rolls, soap, paper towels and alcohol gel dispensers throughout the home
as required.
- Wear
protective clothing provided, observe personal hygiene regulations, and
comply with all Health and Safety, HAACP, COSHH, Food Hygiene procedures
and regulations.
- Awareness
of infection control measures relating to cleaning.
- Be responsible for
opening and locking up of work areas, where necessary.
- Report to Team Leader the need for repairs,
furniture fittings and domestic equipment and make requests for repairs
through to maintenance.
- Take an interest in the welfare of the children as
part of the aim of creating a “home-like” environment and provide
the best possible service to young people and staff, ensuring maximum
cleanliness and hygiene in all areas.
- Understand
and meet nutritional and dietary requirements.
- Have
knowledge of allergens and implement strategies (if required) to ensure
allergens are not in the home.
- Contribute
to the development of young people’s life skills. This includes taking
them grocery shopping, teaching cooking skills and helping them understand
budgeting as it pertains to purchase of household items.
- Co-operate with other trust
staff and work together as a team.
- Maintain a high level of
confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure the observance
of and adhere to the safety regulations and safe procedures within the
home such as Health & Safety/ HAACP /COSHH/ Colour
Coding/Environmental Cleanliness/ Waste management/ Food Hygiene
Procedures and Food Safety Regulation (wearing protective clothing
provided) and may include liaison with
Health and Safety department and Environmental Health as required.
- Report any
accidents/incidents immediately.
- Participate in all
mandatory training to meet standards required by regulatory bodies such as
Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering and BICS Certificate as relevant
to the role, as well as other mandatory training such as Fire Safety,
safeguarding and allergen awareness.
- Participate
in all relevant training to develop understanding of the impact of
experiences of the young people cared for in the home and to be able to
respond in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Any other
duties of according to the needs of the service, appropriate to the grade
as may be assigned by the Team Leader.
- Attend
team meetings if directed by the Team Leader.
- Be prepared to work on a
flexible rota which may include weekends, bank holidays and evening shift
if the home requires this.
