The Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education (CBMSE) is part of the School for Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and as such delivers anatomy teaching to a wide variety of students across the School. This is carried out through hands-on cadaveric dissection thanks to the altruistic donors who have agreed in life to allow their body to be used for anatomy teaching after their death through the Queen’s University (QUB) Body Donation Programme. The CBMSE is currently ranked 3rd in the UK for Anatomy and Physiology (Times Good University Guide 2025) and the Centre for Medical Education is ranked 1st in the UK for Medicine teaching quality (Times Good University Guide 2024).

Reporting to the CBMSE Centre Manager the Bequeathal Officer will be the main point of contact for the Body Donation Programme at QUB. This will include the development and implementation of comprehensive procedures and infrastructure to ensure the professional operation of the Body Donation Programme and compliance with relevant legislative requirements and best practice. You will liaise with a wide range of individuals including potential and existing donors, next-of-kin, executors, medical professionals, undertakers, regulatory authorities eg The Human Tissue Authority (HTA), Coroner’s Office and with anatomy and other related staff within the CBMSE and the wider University.

This is a part-time role (0.5 FTE), 5 days per week onsite (mornings). Due to the nature of the role, opportunities for remote working are limited.

About the person:

The successful candidate should clearly demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:

  • Primary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. science/ healthcare/management) with at least 3 years relevant work experience OR academic or vocational qualifications (eg NVQ 3, 3 A Levels, or equivalent) with 4 years relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years recent relevant experience to include experience of:
    • Developing and successfully implementing policies and procedures to meet organisational and strict legislative requirements.
    • leading the administrative provision of a department or service.
    • Using IT to improve organisational effectiveness.
    • Successfully managing projects and multiple stakeholders.
    • Building productive relationships with multiple stakeholders.
    • Dealing with confidential, sensitive matters and of providing advice and/or information to those affected.

Occasional work outside normal hours as required. Due to the nature of the work and team set-up, leave entitlement during the academic year (Sept-May) will be limited and will need prior approval.
