Senior Environmental Economist

The Environmental Economist role is a highly technical and collaborative position within our Investment Management team. The candidate will be responsible for introducing new investment criteria as NI Water works in partnership with other companies and parts of government providing more holistic, integrated and shared environmental solutions and reporting yielding wider outcomes for the good of society. The broader challenges faced by society are many and include:

  • How to adapt to climate change, in particular to changes to raw water quality and quantity and the increased risk of flooding due to more extreme weather events
  • How to mitigate against climate change and help achieve net zero carbon by 2040
  • How to baseline, protect and enhance natural habitats and the ecosystem services they provide
  • How to provide wider recreational access benefits for the good of people’s wellbeing.

A key ambition is to use the 6 Capitals approach for PC27 business planning so that nonfinancial impacts and dependencies can be expressed in monetary terms. This approach allows different impact categories to be directly compared, providing greater insight into their magnitude and importance, and is key to identifying and realising the best outcomes.
