Duration: Placement until 31 March 2025
Salary: £34,524
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (office-based)

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join a professional team within the Advice & Compliance Directorate of an organisation committed to equality. This Staff Officer position offers an opportunity to work on important initiatives that promote equality of opportunity and combat discrimination.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Promotion of Equality Programmes:
    • Support the development and implementation of positive action strategies and equality programmes across areas such as age, disability, race, religion, political opinion, sexual orientation, sex equality, and equal pay.
    • Work collaboratively with employers and service providers to drive meaningful progress.
  • Affirmative Action Strategies:
    • Promote and implement affirmative action measures through Article 55 reviews with public and private sector employers.
    • Support compliance with agreed reporting arrangements to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Complaint Settlement Oversight:
    • Ensure settlement terms arising from discrimination complaints are met within agreed timelines.
    • Provide advice and assistance to facilitate resolution and compliance.
  • Review of Advertisements:
    • Address potentially discriminatory advertisements with employers.
    • Promote best practices in advertising and provide guidance to stakeholders.
  • Public Sector Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with public sector employers to support equality of opportunity.
    • Collaborate on employment policy development under Section 75 to advance inclusive practices.
  • Working Conditions:

    • Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (35-minute lunch); Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (40-minute lunch).
    • Location: This is a fully office-based role.

    Ideal Candidate:

    • Knowledge of equality legislation and strategies for affirmative action.
    • Experience engaging with employers and service providers to implement effective equality programmes.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to oversee compliance and settlements.
    • Excellent communication skills to build relationships and provide expert guidance.
    • A commitment to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace.
