About the Role
As a Joiner, you will carry out a full range of joinery work, both reactive and planned, across council properties. This includes interpreting working drawings, ordering materials, and ensuring work is completed to high standards of quality and safety.
You will also play a role in supporting other staff, participating in on-the-job training, and contributing to the smooth running of council operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake a full range of joinery tasks, including benchwork and repairs in a building maintenance environment.
- Carry out both reactive and planned maintenance work in council properties.
- Work from provided working drawings, ensuring accuracy and quality in execution.
- Identify, order, and collect materials as required.
- Provide job-costing and time-recording information as needed.
- Participate in a 24-hour emergency callout service if required.
- Assist in the training and on-the-job coaching of new employees, contractors, apprentices, or other relevant staff.
- Drive council vehicles as required.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, including work at heights.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and council policies.
- Maintain detailed records of work for performance monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Act in accordance with council policies, including customer care, equal opportunities, and safeguarding.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Experience:
Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of applications:
- Be a time-served Joiner or hold relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 and 2 Certificates in Craft and Advanced Craft in Carpentry and Joinery.
- Possess a full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland, or have access to transport that meets the requirements of the post.
- Demonstrate at least one year’s relevant experience in the following areas:
- Working in a building maintenance environment.
- Undertaking benchwork and joinery repairs in commercial properties.
