Role: Solicitor – Temporary – Belfast
Job Overview
VANRATH is assisting our client, a prominent public sector organisation, in their search for a Solicitor for an initial 3-month period with the possibility of extension. The Solicitor will provide expert legal advice and representation on employment law matters, working independently under the guidance of a Senior Solicitor.

  • Salary: £21.98/hour
  • 37 hours per week
  • Belfast, with travel throughout NI

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and representation on a wide range of employment matters, including advisory work, defending proceedings, and drafting legal documents such as pleadings, witness statements, and trial bundles.
  • Conduct legal research, deliver strategic opinion papers, and advise clients and third parties while managing personal caseloads under supervision.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide support on general litigation matters and ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain information systems, briefing materials, business cases, and reports in line with organisational requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and legal frameworks.
  • Support the development and resilience of the legal team by assisting with projects, covering colleagues’ responsibilities when required, and contributing to organisational initiatives.
  • Continuously develop professional knowledge to deliver timely and high-quality legal services, while upholding the organisation’s reputation and ensuring adherence to best practices and governance standards.
  • Undertake additional duties as necessary to meet organisational needs, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must provide evidence by the closing date for application that they meet the following essential criteria:

  • Possess a degree or equivalent level (Level 6*) qualification.
  • *refer to the Qualifications Framework

  • Be a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland qualified to practice in Northern Ireland.
  • Can demonstrate at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience within the last five years undertaking and/or assisting in the provision of professional and timely legal advice on a wide range of employment law matters, including non-contentious advisory work and conducting employment related legal proceedings.
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of Industrial Tribunal practice and procedure in Northern Ireland.
  • Can demonstrate: (To be assessed at Interview)

    • Excellent analytical thinking and decision making skills
    • Strong organisational skills in order to manage a busy and varied caseload
    • Ability to work well under pressure of multiple deadlines
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills
    • Willingness and ability to work collegiately
