JOB DESCRIPTION
To work within the Clients research team, to deliver the Council’s research function and to
ensure relevance and quality in relation to the client’s Strategy and Plans.
To contribute to the development of Client policies and procedures.
Scope of Responsibility
The post holder will be responsible to the Director of Strategic Development for all day-to-day
operational activities which will include giving advice and guidance, undertaking research,
investigation and analysis and making recommendations.
Principal Duties
? To analyse / interpret data sets generated through surveys.
? To engage with clients of the Arts Council to support their data and information
requirements.
? To develop and maintain effective systems for gathering, analysing and reviewing data
and information for the ongoing monitoring of performance of Arts Council activities.
? To support the Arts Council’s policy in relation to equality of opportunity.
? To co-ordinate the Arts Council’s statutory compliance and reporting requirements,
providing advice to other departments where appropriate.
? To co-ordinate / manage commissioned research projects.
? To convert research findings into strategic outcomes / prepare written reports and policy
documents.
? To undertake small scale primary research.
? To undertake monitoring and evaluation.
? To undertake any other relevant and appropriate duties which may reasonably be
allocated.
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
Essential
1. EDUCATION: Educated to degree standard and a minimum of Grade A-C in GCSE
Mathematics and English (Language) or equivalent.
2. EXPERIENCE: You must be able to demonstrate a breadth and depth of experience across
the principal duties of this post. To demonstrate this you will probably possess the equivalent
of at least two year’s full-time experience, gained within the past four years, in a post that
included the undertaking of 1) research, information gathering and analysis, and 2) complex
analytical reports.
3. RESEARCH: Skills in research design, research methodology and project management.
4. ANALYTICAL SKILLS: The ability to analyse and evaluate and information from a wide
variety of sources and present it in a usable format to a variety of audiences.
5. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Excellent oral, written and presentation skills for audiences at
all levels.
6. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Evidence of success in building and maintaining working
relationships across professional and operational boundaries within an organisation and with
external organisations; working on own initiative or as part of a team
7. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: High level negotiating, influencing and communication skills,
together with a successful track record of providing advice on complex and sensitive issues.
8. IT SKILLS: You must be computer literate with strong IT skills and be competent in the use
of Microsoft Outlook and Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
