Programme Manager – Bus Systems

Are you an experienced project manager with a strong track record of delivering complex projects? Our client is seeking a Programme Manager – Bus Systems to oversee the successful delivery of a multi-million-pound programme aimed at enhancing operational systems and driving efficiency.

Role Purpose

As Programme Manager, you will lead the delivery of the Bus Systems Programme, ensuring alignment with governance policies and company objectives. With a budget of £26 million over the next four years, you will manage high-profile initiatives such as Real-Time Passenger Information and advanced operational systems. This role involves managing a team of project managers and engineers, driving programme success through effective leadership, resource management, and stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Bus Systems Programme, including the development of robust project management procedures.
  • Take ownership of complex projects, acting as Project Manager where required.
  • Monitor programme progress, ensuring delivery within agreed parameters for time, cost, and quality.
  • Manage resources to maintain the technical capacity of the programme team.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure project processes comply with audit requirements and performance standards.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the project team, focusing on capability development and succession planning.
  • Deliver critical projects, including Real-Time Passenger Information, Radio Systems, and Audio-Visual Tracking.

Essential Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management within a systems or operations environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing large budgets and contracts.
  • Proven ability to manage operational interfaces and ensure smooth collaboration across teams.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent).
  • Project management certification desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety, environmental, and employment regulations.
  • Strong decision-making abilities under pressure, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing teams in a bus operations or transport environment would be desirable.
