Overview

The IT Senior Network Officer will play a key role in the ongoing development and maintenance of the public sector organisation's network and network components to support the objectives of the IT Team in delivering organisation wide business services. The post-holder will assist the IT Systems Manager in the design and development of the organisation's overall network architecture and be responsible for the day to day management, maintenance and support of the network infrastructure and its links with other networks. .

What you'll do as an IT Senior Network Engineer

Responsible for the configuration, management and maintenance of the network and communication systems in accordance with requirements and agreed service levels – network systems to include, but not be limited to:

• local and wide area networks, including switch management, VLAN configuration, etc.
• wireless systems, including access point management, channel assignments, etc.
• remote access systems, including portal systems and VPN
• Internet services, e.g. Internet access, filtering, etc.
• network security systems, including firewalls and network access control
• MS Windows network services, e.g. DNS, DHCP, etc.
• Telephony systems, including digital and analogue telephony systems, voicemail, switchboard and IVR solutions
• Unified communications (messaging, video conferencing, presence, etc.) with the support of the IT Service Delivery Team (Note: system maintenance will occasionally require the use of ladders, heavy lifting, working under raised floors or working in confined spaces)

Criteria

• Strong experience as a Network Engineer
• Experience of configuring switches (understanding how this is done, why, the security behind it)
• Experience working with Layer 2 / 3 switches, VLANs, cloud management, remote support
• Experience of network maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades/replacements etc.
• Willing to learn and can do attitude.
