Our client is an organisation offering vital support, advice and guidance for individuals facing challenges across Northern Ireland. Established in 1999, the company provides counselling to primary, post-primary and special schools as well as an Adults Counselling Service across Northern Ireland. They are interested in people who are committed to excellence and best practice and who are willing to work alongside their dedicated team to make this happen.
They are now looking for Floating Support Counsellors to join them on a part-time basis, working 25 hours per week across 38 weeks per year.

The Role
As a Floating Support Counsellor, you will provide confidential, high-quality counselling services to young people in post-primary schools across the Belfast and County Down area.
Supporting their emotional wellbeing and safeguarding needs, you will engage directly with students, delivering appropriate therapeutic interventions. You will also build strong partnerships with school staff to ensure the counselling service integrates effectively with pastoral care.
A key aspect of your role will include managing referrals, safeguarding concerns and maintaining accurate records in accordance with Data Protection standards, ensuring ethical and legal compliance.
Additionally, you will:
- Promote the counselling service to students, parents and staff
- Deliver group sessions where needed and liaise with external agencies
About You
To be considered as a Floating Support Counsellor, you will need:
- A professional qualification in counselling or psychotherapy (minimum Level 4/Level 7 Scotland) or Masters, or equivalent qualification as regulated by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) or the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and from a recognised or a relevant validating organisation
- A minimum of 100 hours’ post qualification, clinically supervised practice in counselling children and young people up to the age of 18 or a minimum of 100 hours’ post qualification experience working with adults and have successfully completed the Level 5 CPCAB Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People
- Experience working with statutory and voluntary agencies
- An understanding of child development and an awareness of issues impacting on a young person
- To be accredited (or working toward completion, to be accredited no later than one year after start date) with BACP, IACP or NCPS
- To be a registered member with BACP, IACP or NCPS
- A full, valid driving licence
