Your new role
As an Income Recovery Officer, you will provide an efficient administration service for current / past tenant arrears and credits at all stages of the process:
- Manage Tenant Arrears: Action current and past tenant arrears, monitor accounts weekly, and negotiate repayment plans.
- Account Management: Prepare adjustments for discrepancies, handle tenant credits and refunds, and manage bad debt write-offs.
- Communication: Handle inbound/outbound calls and emails, build personal contact with tenants, and deal with correspondence related to arrears.
- Reporting and Monitoring: Produce and action monitoring reports weekly, and provide status updates on legal cases to the audit and risk committee.
- Financial Advice: Provide initial money advice, assist with housing benefit and universal credit claims, and refer complex cases to Money Advisors.
- Legal Processes: Action cases through legal processes, liaise with legal teams, and attend court hearings.
- Collaboration: Liaise with various agencies and third parties to secure payments and support tenants.
- Customer Service: Respond to enquiries, take payments, provide balance enquiries, and resolve customer complaints.
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum 18 months of administration experience in a busy office.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Frontline customer service experience, including handling enquiries.
- Experience in debt/arrears recovery or credit control.
- GCSE English/Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of financial computerised packages and welfare/benefits system.
- Experience in debt management advice.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good organisational skills and problem-solving initiative.
- The ability to act tactfully, with discretion and confidentiality.
- Polite and courteous telephone manner.
- Teamwork capability and ability to handle a varied workload.
- Flexible attitude towards work, including occasional evenings/weekends.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to customer service.
- The ability to travel independently of public transport.
