About the role:
- Hourly Rate: £11.98 per hour
- Location: Belfast
- Hours of Work: 37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
- Holidays: 35 days pro rata
- Duration: Temporary, ongoing

Housing Benefit Assessment Officers will be responsible for the processing and assessment of Housing Benefit claims. Duties will include:
- Provide housing advice and assistance to people, who often have complex needs or are facing difficult circumstances, with a focus on preventing homelessness. The post will also involve duties within the telephony sector.
- Assess Housing Benefit applications as directed by the Team Leader.
- Makes decisions based on the interpretation of Housing Benefit Regulations
- Deal with queries by telephone or in person
- Complete Searchlight checks and utilise other government systems to ensure accurate HB assessment
Criteria:
Applicants must provide evidence by the closing date for application that they meet the following essential criteria:
Possess one of the following:
- a. A Levels or equivalent level qualification (Level 3*) and can demonstrate 1 years’ relevant experience.
- b. 5 GCSEs or equivalent level qualification (Level 2*) to include Maths and English at grade C or above and can demonstrate at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
Exceptionally, candidates not holding the above level of qualifications but with 3 years’ relevant experience** with evidence of training / learning in Housing Benefit related matters may also be considered.
Can demonstrate experience in at least two of the following areas:
- a. Experience of the implementation or operation of policies and procedures relating to Housing Benefit or other Social Security benefits.
- b. Experience of using i-World system in the administration of Housing Benefit.
- c. Experience of working in an administrative role.
Can demonstrate: (To be assessed at Interview/Assessment)
- a. Ability to work accurately under pressure
- b. Ability to work as part of a team
- c. Strong customer orientation
- d. Excellent attention to detail
