Deputy Principal - Youth Work Policy Team

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead two Peace Plus Investment areas: Shared Learning Together and Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing, representing the Department as the NI Accountable Department.
  • Contribute to reviewing and advancing youth policy, including its implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on strategic projects focused on improving youth outcomes, including International Youth work and oversight of North South Education & Training Standards (NSETS).
  • Manage business cases and approvals for relevant projects.
  • Monitor and report on expenditure and budgets, in partnership with the Education Authority.
  • Draft guidance, papers, briefings, and responses to Assembly Questions related to the role’s responsibilities.
  • Provide support on various tasks required to meet the Department’s business priorities, with shared line management duties across the Youth Work Policy Team.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in youth work, social science, social policy, or a related field and at least two years’ relevant experience at a middle-management level in youth services;
    OR
  • A youth work qualification and at least four years’ relevant experience at a middle-management level in youth services.

Key Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver results, often within tight time frames.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Financial and budgeting management experience.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • NSETS-endorsed qualification.
  • Experience managing projects and/or programs.
  • Background in policy development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at a regional level.
