Senior Environmental Health officer

Job description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a respected public sector client for a highly motivated Senior Environmental Health Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the community, working on key environmental health issues that impact public safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage investigations into environmental health complaints, including noise pollution, air quality, and waste management.
• Carry out inspections of commercial and residential premises to ensure compliance with public health and environmental legislation.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on environmental health matters, supporting both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Lead on food safety and hygiene inspections in businesses, ensuring they meet health standards and regulations.
• Participate in legal proceedings, including preparing reports and attending court where necessary.
• Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development and knowledge.

Essential Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent).
• Demonstrable experience in environmental health enforcement and a thorough understanding of relevant legislation.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring junior officers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with the public, businesses, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven ability to handle a high caseload while meeting deadlines and maintaining high professional standards.
• A proactive, solution-focused approach to problem-solving.

Desirable Skills:

• Previous experience working in the public sector.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation as it applies to public sector services.
