Our client based in Belfast, is looking for a Statistical Research Officer to join their team

Job Description:

- The Quarterly Business Survey team collects data on employee jobs, turnover, exports, and construction output from businesses in Northern Ireland to produce short-term estimates of the performance of the NI economy.

The post holder will be responsible for the production ofquarterly economic output statistics - short term indicators of growth in the output of the services/ production/ construction industries in Northern Ireland.

- Key activities involve:

- Data cleaning and validation;

- Data processing / statistical procedures (e.g. imputation, grossing, outlier methods) to produce preliminary estimates;

- Produce draft publication and release documentation for clearance by G7 Statistician, including draft lines and infographics for social media;

- Respond to a variety of adhoc statistical queries;

- Professional development through training and seminars.

- Provide advice and information to customers on an ad hoc basis; including answers to AQs, press queries, briefing for policy colleagues and to act as a data service for internal and external customers.

- Liaise with ONS to ensure that the methods used in Northern Ireland are consistent with those used in the ONS and in line with best practice.

- Continue to develop and improve statistical outputs and processes to meet user needs, including undertaking user engagement exercises, and improving statistical methods in line with the ELMS Modernisation project.

- Participate in internal branch working groups and external user groups, as well as representing ELMS at wider cross branch NISRA working groups relevant to Economic Output as required.

Essential Criteria:

- 5 GCSEs including maths and english (certificate proof required)

- Degree (certificate proof required)

- Excellent communications skill – oral and written

- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with key stakeholders

- Strong organisational skills. The post holder will be required to work effectively within the team whilst also managing their own workload.

- Good statistical skills, including experience of managing and analysing large datasets, quality assuring outputs. Previous experience of sampling, grossing and estimation, outliering and imputation methodologies would be beneficial.

- Good IT skills within Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel. Previous experience with SAS and R would be beneficial.

- Good knowledge of the Data Protection Act, Official Statistics Code of Practice.

- £17.94ph (weekly)

- Monday to Friday (flexible working)

- Hybrid Working
