Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council - Part Time Administration Assistant - Antrim

Riada is in recruitment partnership with Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council to recruit an Administration Assistant for their Business Support Team. This temporary role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to local government operations while gaining valuable public sector experience.
About the role:
- Hourly Rate: £14.17 per hour
- Location: Antrim Civic Centre
- Hours: Part Time, 22 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
- Holidays: 35 days pro rata
- Duration: Temporary, 1 month (initially)
- Sector: Public Sector
What You’ll Do:
- To provide a comprehensive customer care and administrative service as part of the Business Support Team including Waste Management, Fleet, Waste Operations and Sustainability.
- Provide a high level of internal and external customer service including taking ownership of customer queries and following issues through to completion.
- Demonstrate a team approach to achieving the objectives of the Waste Management Department through full flexibility in relation to tasks undertaken and demonstrate the ability to carry out multiple tasks at one time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume the primary point of contact for all waste enquiries and complaints from the general public through the call hub which would include
- Answering queries, reporting issues and taking payments
- Adding new customers to internal systems
- Assisting customers with bulky collection request
- Provide face to face services to the general public who request Waste Services at the main reception desk
- Deal courteously and effectively with Emails, Livechat and Social Media requests from Members of the public, commercial customers, Elected Members, Stakeholders and external agencies including NIHE, Linergy, Roads Service, DEARA
- Collaborate and effectively communicate with our Contracted Services Suppliers to ensure the smooth running of all household bin collections and escalate to Line Managers any issues which may need escalated, in a timely manner.
- Communicate with Media to ensure social media is kept up to date for Householders and Elected Members on any operational changes which may affect them
- Deal with all customer contacts within the section in accordance with the Council’s Charter for Customers. Aim to exceed customer expectations and resolve wherever possible, customer contact to conclusion without referring the customer to other staff and advise customer of outcome
Criteria:
Qualifications: Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English Language and Maths, or equivalent.
Consideration: Candidates without the specified qualifications may still apply if they can demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant administrative or clerical experience. Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience in an administrative or clerical role, which includes:
- Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Experience with data input and retrieval on a computerised system.
- Collaborative work experience to achieve team goals.
- Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
- High levels of discretion and confidentiality.
Other Requirements:
- A full current driving licence or access to transport (if unable to drive due to a disability) is required to carry out the duties of the post.
- Availability: Willingness to work outside normal hours when required.
