- ABOUT US -

We are a university with a national and international reputation for excellence, innovation and regional engagement, making a major contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of Northern Ireland.

Our core business activities are teaching and learning, widening access to education, research and innovation and technology and knowledge transfer.

- THE ROLE -

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on a “5G Film Anywhere” project, funded by DSIT as part of the Belfast 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme. Ulster University has one of the UK’s leading Film and Virtual Production facilities and the successful candidate will have opportunity to work within high-tech environments in Studio Ulster and Ulster University to unlock potential of 5G technology for remote Virtual Production.

The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team, in partnership with two other research associates, to help design, build, and deploy state-of-the-art solutions within the “5G Film Anywhere” context. In this project, we aim to build an end-to-end solution for remote Digital Virtual Production by combining 5G technology and a new innovative codec solution to achieve real-time and high-capacity radio links between on-location filming and production studios. This research post will focus on building the practical use case for the project, which may involve the use of Unreal Engine for 3D world-building and animation of characters and processing of point cloud data (gathered by photogrammetry cameras) from real world locations into textured mesh landscapes for near real time digital production.

We may create a 12-month waiting list for same or similar roles within the Department / Faculty. The University reserves the right to extend the waiting list across the University if required for certain posts.

- ABOUT YOU -

The post holder must have:

- Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline such as Computing, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Game Development or Creative Technologies.
- Experience working with a game engine, preferably Unreal Engine and the Unreal Blueprint system.
- Experience in C++ programming and/or Python or similar.
