Job
Purpose:
The
Inventory Control Manager will report to the Senior Supply Chain Manager on all stock management activity
across the BSO PaLS distribution centres.
The Inventory Control Manager will ensure that PaLS HSC customers are
supported by a robust and efficient supply chain. He/she will be responsible for managing and
maintaining inventory at optimum levels in accordance with the stock holding
strategies and manage the timely re-order of goods in excess of £50 million per
annum.
Job
Description:
- Optimise, review and refresh the
re-order schedule in line with supplier lead times and warehouse
capacity. Split suppliers into
weekly, fortnightly and monthly schedules and set minimum re-order levels
to ensure a suitable number of week’s stock coverage is maintained.
- Monitor
stock availability periodically, ensuring agreed targets are achieved
- Manage and review the intake
schedule, ensuring it remains aligned to the re-order schedule. Report on OTIF deliveries from each
supplier.
- Maintaining the stock catalogue and
manage the workload of the Buyers to ensure they have responsibility for
individual contracts. Improve
coordination between Procurement and Logistics to enhance the flow of
information, whereby ensuring contract and system compliance.
- Identify
slow / non-moving stock lines to be discontinued or transfer to non-stock
direct supply.
- Develop and co-ordinate efficient and
cost effective stock holding policies across the BSO PaLS sites.
- A key stakeholder in the
development of Auto-Ordering and Self-Billing within the FLP system(s).
- Support
system enhancements to deliver improved efficiency and develop reporting to
allow effective operational decisions.

Participate
in working groups and operational forums to liaise and engage with staff and
customers
- · Ensure
effective communication across the Inventory Control team and the wider PaLS
team.

Ensure
that data is maintained to high standard, supporting accurate data analysis and
comprehensive reporting.
- ·
Ensure
management information is available for the production of Key Performance
Indicators.
- · Identify,
develop and deliver training to staff on departmental processes/procedures and
any necessary system training. Maintain
accurate training records.
- · Provide
effective leadership and manage all reporting staff to achieve service levels
to customers in accordance with Service Offering
- · Oversee
Selection & Recruitment within delegated areas of responsibility
- · Championing
Attendance Management and ensure BSO policies and procedures are adhered to.
- · Review
of process and procedures to align them with the operational requirements,
ensure were necessary they comply with legal and statutory requirements.
- · Promote
a system of quality management within the operations including participation in
quality audits to maintain quality standards – ISO9001, Food Safety
- · Support
environmental strategies to conform to legislation and to support waste
management policies and strategies.
- · Manage
resources and deploy effectively to meet the service delivery demands
- · Manage
workload within the teams, across the teams and among team members to ensure
priorities are met. Promote team working
and encourage empowerment of staff within delegated areas of responsibility.
- · Management
of delegated staff resources and responsibility and authority for staff within
the Inventory Control Team
- · Periodic
review of supplier performance to establish inbound service level, tackle
underperformance with the top offenders failing to meet the target. Hold supplier reviews and ensure an
improvement plan is in place.
- Implement and maintain a robust
supplier specification to enforce the capture of pack configuration and
volumetric parameters needed to define the stock within the Warehouse
Management System (WMS).
- Liaise
with Procurement to ensure efficient utilisation and optimisation of stock
contracts.
- · Developing
talent for the future, providing effective leadership
of staff for whom the post holder has day to day management responsibility in
order to achieve the aims and objectives of BSO PaLS and its customers, with a
clear commitment to continuous quality improvement and staff development.
- · Assist
in future implementations/upgrades and lead on testing of inventory control
systems/functions. Take responsibility
for system housekeeping, ensure that data is maintained to high standard,
supporting comprehensive reporting and accurate data analysis.

Criteria:
1 University
Degree plus one year’s logistics supply chain experience at supervisor
or department/section manager level.
OR:
A relevant Supply Chain Management/CIPS/CILT qualification
plus
One year’s logistics supply chain experience at supervisor or
department/section manager level.
OR:
Have at least five
years (in the last ten) logistics, supply chain experience, to include a
detailed working knowledge of Inventory Control Systems and Supplier Engagement
in a large complex organisation.
2.Experienced in the use of Warehouse Management/Inventory Control Systems.
3 Hold a
current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access
to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants
whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport
approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the
post.
