The Recruitment Co are currently working with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service to recruit for a Manual Support Technician based in Cookstown.

MAIN PURPOSE

To support delivery of all Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Learning & Development Centre (LDC) training courses and services and to help ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day running of the LDC training site.
To support and assist in the maintenance of buildings and resources to ensure that equipment and facilities are available as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training Area: Scenario Set-up, Delivery and Clear-up
  • Support the delivery of all operational and command training and assist in the maintenance of buildings and resources.
  • Complete allocated tasks or workloads in order to meet the demands of a large multi-facility operational training site.
  • Liaise with Training Site Manager, TST Team Leader and Trainers to support scenario preparation and management.
  • Prepare various areas of the site and test equipment to facilitate planned activities or events. Examples include (but are not restricted to);
  • Classroom / meeting room set-up and post course arrangements.
  • Fire appliance and equipment positioning.
  • Live fire set-up and debris clearance.
  • Preparation of breathing apparatus (BA) sets and cylinder charging.

Property & Equipment Testing & Maintenance.

Conduct basic testing, maintenance and defecting (when necessary) of various equipment and systems within the LDC Training facility and ensure recording of relevant data on appropriate systems. Examples include (but are not restricted to);

  • Gas, Fire Training Props and Flood Water Treatment Plant.Building Safety Systems (i.e. Fire Alarm and Extraction Systems),
  • Breathing Apparatus Compressor.
  • Relevant vehicles and operational equipment.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain familiarity with various critical aspects of the training facility to ensure safe and effective utilisation of the LDC training site.
  • Complete training courses or familiarisation / awareness training required to fulfil all tasks, duties and responsibilities of the role.
  • Provide a high level of internal and external customer service.

Experience and Qualifications
Essential

  • A minimum of two years’ experience working as a driver/handy person or similar in a maintenance and/or service delivery environment.
  • Possess a full and current UK Driving Licence with category BE.
  • Possess a LGV- Class C Licence
  • Possess a Counter balance and Reach Forklift licence or be willing to undertake training to achieve this qualification within a specified period following appointment.
  • Possess and maintain an accredited Water Treatment Operator Certificate or be willing to undertake training to achieve this qualification within a specified period following appointment.

Desirable

  • 1. Possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
  • 2. Qualification and / or experience of working within a technical / maintenance role.
  • 3. Knowledge or experience of working within a learning or training environment.
  • 4. Knowledge or experience of Fire & Rescue Service equipment.
