Apple Recruitment are recruiting for Care Attendants (ALL STARS Activity Scheme) on behalf of the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

Job Purpose:

The Summer Activity Scheme aims to provide inclusive physical activities for young people with disabilities between the ages of 7-17 years in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area. Through this Scheme, the young people will be introduced to different forms of physical activity which will breakdown existing barriers to their participation and enhance their active lifestyles, health and confidence.

Job Description:

The post holders will be required to assist with the co-ordination and organisation of the programme of activities and care for the young people attending the Scheme. This will include attending to the young people’s personal needs and ensuring their safety and wellbeing whilst adhering to Council policies and procedures.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the young people participating in the Scheme.
  • Attend to the personal needs of the young people including toileting and changing as required.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Trust guidelines and the Medication Log.
  • Assist with the co-ordination and organisation of the programme of activities to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Scheme.
  • Keep the Leader informed of medical considerations/difficulties of each young person.
  • Keep the Leader informed of accidents and other incidents.
  • Accompany young people during the Scheme on private transport as required.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties that may be required and are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must, by the closing date for applications, have:

Experience/Qualifications

Currently undertaking or have completed:

1a.) Teacher training or other relevant third level qualification e.g. sports, leisure, arts, youth work.

OR

1b.) NVQ level 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject e.g. Childcare, Teaching/ Classroom Assistant.

2.) Experience of working with young people between the ages of 7-17 years.

Skills/Abilities

3.) Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

4.) Ability to assist with coordination and organisation of the programme.

5.) Ability to work within established procedures and guidelines.

6.) Customer focused.

7.) High level of commitment towards job.

Working Arrangements/Flexibility

Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the training and the Scheme:

Training: 22 July 2024 – 26 July 2024 (inclusive)

AND

Scheme weeks: 29 July 2024 – 16 August 2024 inclusive (excluding Saturdays and Sundays).

Desirable Criteria:

Experience of:

1.) Working with people with a disability including toileting and changing.

2.) Working on an activity programme for young people.

3.) Working on an activity programme for young people with a disability.

Further Details

  • Hourly Rate: £11.98 per hour
  • Location: Gilford Community Centre, Craigavon
  • Duration: Temporary
  • Hours:

· Training (22 July 2024 – 26 July 2024 inclusive): Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (including 30 minutes unpaid break).

· Scheme weeks (29 July 2024 – 16 August 2024 inclusive, excluding Saturdays and Sundays): Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 3:30 pm plus additional hours as required.
