Job Summary:

The Senior Practitioner delivers effective engagement, involvement, advocacy, and support services to the public, including patients, service users, carers, families, and communities across Northern Ireland. The role involves individual and group support, promoting the interests of individuals, helping them find their voice, and facilitating public involvement in health and social care services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual advocacy support, offering guidance and confidential support to individuals using HSC services.
  • Support group sessions to capture public feedback on Health and Social Care services, facilitating their involvement in service improvement.
  • Manage a caseload, providing tailored support plans and holistic, multi-agency approaches.
  • Coordinate designated projects and facilitate public engagement and advocacy activities.
  • Develop positive working relationships with other organisations and service providers.
  • Use problem-solving skills to provide guidance, signposting, and support.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant policies and procedures and ensure high standards of client records management.
  • Deliver presentations and training on the organisation’s role and services.

Essential Criteria:

  • University degree or relevant professional qualification with 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable people, or 5 years’ experience including 1 year of coordinating projects or casework.
  • Experience in liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Advanced communication skills, empathy, and active listening.
  • Current full driving license valid in the UK or access to transport.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Commitment to engaging and supporting vulnerable people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently and prioritise workload.
  • Proficient in written, verbal, and ICT communication.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Health and Social Care Complaints Procedures.
  • Professional qualification in advocacy or a related discipline.
