About your next employer
The Summer Activity Scheme aims to provide inclusive physical activities for young people with disabilities between the ages of 7-17 years in the Borough Council area. Through this Scheme, the young people will be introduced to different forms of physical activity which will breakdown existing barriers to their participation and enhance their active lifestyles, health and confidence.

The post holder will have responsibility for the overall management and day to day running of the scheme. This will include management of employees, liaising with parents, completing accurate records, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all young people participating in the scheme and ensuring the adherence to Council policies and procedures

What you’ll do

Planning time: 10 hours planning time will be required before the Scheme commences or after once finished. Additional hours as required

1. Responsible for the overall management of the scheme including employee management and development.
2. After initial consultations with the Sports Development Officer/Sports Development Assistant, produce a draft programme of activities and after further consultation, produce agreed programme of suitable activities.
3. Co-ordinate and maintain a cohesive scheme of activities throughout the duration of the scheme.
4. Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the young people participating in the scheme.
5. Liaise with parents as necessary.
6. Be aware of and keep team members informed of any issues relating to the young people on the scheme.
7. Supervision and caring duties including toileting and changing as required.
8. Administer medication in accordance with Trust guidelines and the Medication Log.
9. Compile reports of accidents/incidents which may occur.
10. Monitor employee performance.
11. Maintain accurate financial and administrative records including timesheets for employees.
12. Review and evaluate the scheme’s programme of activities at the end of each day
13. Liaise with Community Centre Management and Sports Development Officer/Sports Development Assistant about requirements.
14. Responsible for the delegation of duties to Assistant Leaders and Care Attendants.
15. Undertake the completion of Risk Assessments for each young person.
16. Accompany young people during the scheme on private transport as required.
17. Undertake any other relevant duties that may be required and are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
About you
Essential:

  • Currently undertaking or have completed teacher training or other relevant third level qualification e.g. sports, leisure, arts, youth work.
  • Experience of:

• Supervising young people between the ages of 7-17 years.
• Supervising a team of employees or volunteers.
• Organising and managing an activity programme for young people.
• Working with people with a disability.
• Maintaining administrative records

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable organisational skills.
  • Ability to plan, lead and supervise an innovative activity programme.
  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to work within established procedures and guidelines.
  • Customer focused.
  • High level of commitment towards job.

Desirable:
Experience of:
• Working on an activity programme for young people with a disability.
• Managing an activity programme for young people with a disability.
• Toileting and changing people with a disability.

Please note the successful applicant must go through an Enhanced Access NI with barred list before starting the role.

Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the training and the Scheme:- Training: 22 July 2024 – 26 July 2024 (inclusive) AND Scheme weeks: 29 July 2024 – 16 August 2024 inclusive (excluding Saturdays and Sundays)
