Technician

You will provide specific technical support services to academic and research staff, students and visiting researchers in the Marine laboratory to ensure research can be conducted in a safe and efficient way. This post is based in the Queens Marine Laboratory in Portaferry.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

• Hold an OND/ONC or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject.
• Have recent relevant technical work experience in a relevant teaching/research laboratory.
• Have experience of providing health and safety guidance and advice to staff/students and/or visitors.
• Have experience of planning and managing outdoor fieldwork activities in a relevant work based setting.
• Have experience of working with marine species.
• Have experience of laboratory equipment and undertaking basic preventative maintenance.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
