IN a fast changing economy it is essential that everyone has access to accurate and up-to-date labour market information.
That was the message from the Minister for Employment and Learning, Stephen Farry, when he attended a recent Careers Insight Evening for students and their parents at Aquinas Diocesan Grammar School.
Over 86 organisations including major employers and universities exhibited at the event to afford students the opportunity to explore the career areas and pathways available to them.
During the evening, aimed at students in Years 10-14, the minister highlighted the importance of researching current and future skills needs when considering career options and choices.
“Rapid changes are taking place in the labour market driven by technological advances and the demands of the economy. I recently launched the NI Skills Barometer forecasting tool, which I consider an important resource to support both careers education and guidance,” he said.
“This innovative tool will provide a clear indication of the growth areas in our economy and will help to identify current and future skills needs.”
