Deputy Group Chief Executive, Gordon Milligan said: “Translink continues to fully embrace the value of apprenticeships for business success and for the contribution they bring into the workplace. We currently employ over 40 apprentices working across the organisation in a variety of roles and at different stages in their studies.
“The training they receive equips them with the expert know-how and professional capabilities to fulfil their job responsibilities allowing them to build a successful and rewarding career. We have also seen many achieve national industry awards for their knowledge and skills.
“These engineering apprenticeship programmes will be delivered over a four year period, starting September 2020 and involves a combination of working and learning on site at a Translink workshop for four days a week whilst attending college on one day to complete a professionally accredited NVQ Qualification. This allows staff to combine academic study with the benefits of working with experienced staff and learn from colleagues across all levels of the business.”
Mr Milligan added: “Over recent years we have seen a transformation in public transport; more people are making the bus and train their first choice for travel and we want to create a team who will help us to further grow and build on this success. It is a very exciting time for public transport with many new developments on the horizon such as the recent announcement of new hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, being piloted into our fleet as part of our plans to decarbonise public transport and 21 new train carriages due to arrive in 2021. We hope to inspire the next generation of Translink engineers to join our team through these attractive apprenticeship programmes.”
