MORE than 50 new jobs are to be created thanks to a multi million pound investment plan.
The Co Armagh crisp and snack company, Tayto Group Ltd, is committing nearly £6million in additional wages and salaries over the next five years.
The firm currently employs 390 staff at its Tandgraee Castle and the new jobs will contribute some £1,160,000 a year in salaries to the local economy.
Invest Northern Ireland has offered the company £232,000 of support through the Jobs Fund to assist with its expansion.
Announcing the new jobs, Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster said:
“For over 50 years Tayto has been providing employment in Northern Ireland and in the past six years the company has experienced significant growth through acquisition. This investment in new jobs reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the local area.
“Invest NI is supporting the investment through its Jobs Fund, which is helping companies create jobs and get people back into work. By 2014 Invest NI aims to have supported the creation of 4,000 jobs through this measure, which is part of its Boosting Business initiative.â€Â?
Tayto is the third largest crisp and snack manufacturer in the UK, employing over 1200 staff across its five plants.
Paul Allen, Tayto’s Chief Executive, said: “These new positions have been created as part of our long-term strategy to increase the capacity of our facilities here in Northern Ireland to meet increased demand, both nationally and internationally. While we are now very much a national company, our home is very definitely in County Armagh.â€Â?
This announcement precedes the news that the Belfast based electrical engineering company, B. I. Electrial Services, is to create 26 new jobs at its Mallusk facilty.
Making the announcement Arlene Foster explained the firm, a specialist in commercial and industrial electrical installation, is increasing its workforce as part of an expansion drive to the Asia Pacific, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The minister said
“B.I. Electrical are to be congratulated on the expansion of their business into new markets in Asia Pacific and the Gulf States, and the creation of 26 new jobs.
“B.I. Electrical joins an increasing number of local companies who recognise the importance of looking beyond local markets to take advantage of the opportunities that exist across the globe.â€Â?
She continued: “It is important that we continue to build strong economic relationships with trading partners in international markets. I welcome the opportunity to return to the United Arab Emirates to further develop these links and promote Northern Ireland’s tourism offering.â€Â?
