A STUDENT from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has been shortlisted for this year’s Plumbing and Heating Awards 2016.
Twenty-one-year-old Fintan Murray (above), who studies the higher level apprenticeship gas course at SERC, was nominated for the Apprentice of the Year award by his employer, Saintfield-based Francis Murray and Son Plumbing and Heating.
The awards reward organisations and individuals that have achieved the highest possible standards.
Fintan is amongst the first students to study the higher level apprenticeship course developed by the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) as part of the Northern Ireland Apprenticeships Strategy — Securing Our Success.
Fintan said: “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. I would like to thank my employer and my tutors at SERC who have helped me develop new skills which will enhance my career prospects.
“I decided to do an apprenticeship because I am a hands on type of person. The course allows me to work towards a third level qualification whilst earning a salary. It’s more than just a normal course; it teaches you how to apply your skills and prepares you for life after education.”
