Serving Up A Tourism Career

11th March 2015

A NEW training academy will provide 16 young people the opportunity to develop their careers in the tourism and hospitality sector.

The Diageo Tourism and Hospitality Academy, modelled on the company’s globally acclaimed Learning for Life programme, is the first of its kind in North-ern Ireland and will help the candidates, aged 18 to 24, to develop their skills over a 16-week course involving off-site work experience. They will gain insight and experience of the hospitality and tourism industry including interview preparation, food and beverage skills, customer care and communications and computer skills. Students will also benefit from ongoing mentoring and assistance to guide them through the training and job application process. Following completion of the course participants will have three months paid placement with an industry partner.

The programme is accredited by City and Guilds, designed and delivered by Belfast Met, supported by Diageo and is FLU funded by the Department for Employment and Learning.
