“The redevelopment of Riddel Hall acknowledges Queen’s University’s commitment to ensure that it stays at the forefront of business and management education in the United Kingdom, and enhances its worldwide reputation as a high-class centre for teaching and learning.
“The new facility will provide a Leadership Institute and Management School which aligns with my Department’s focus on developing management and leadership skills within our economy.”
The new school is housed in the redeveloped Riddel Hall, a grade B listed three storey building situated on the Stranmillis Road.
The total capital cost of the redevelopment of Riddel Hall was £13.9million, of which £6.3million was provided by the Department for Employment and Learning.
The original building forms the heart of the facility, providing the main teaching facilities, administration accommodation and postgraduate space.
An extension of approximately 2,200 square metres houses the main academic offices and other support accommodation.
The redevelopment enhances the identity of the Management School and provides best-in-class facilities.
As specialists in executive education, the school will be dealing with the highest level of business people and their associated organisations.
It has assembled a group of people with the experience and influence who will aim to challenge assumptions, create new ways of thinking and doing things differently.
A select group of companies across Northern Ireland has donated more than £1m to support this initiative in Riddel Hall recognising the key role that Queen’s University and the Leadership Institute will play in the development of a sustainable and competitive economy in this region.
Professor Mary McAleese, former President of the Republic of Ireland, performed the official opening.
