A UNIQUE course offered at SERC is paying dividends for graduates who are now entering the jobs market.
Three graduates have already clinched full-time roles with global law firm Allen & Overy following their specialist training on the document skills foundation course.
The 24-week course is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and included a hands-on placement as well as training in legal text processing, speed keying and digital transcription.
It was designed to develop a skilled talent pool that can excel in the production and management of complex legal documents and gain employment in the legal market with the support of SERC and Grafton Employment Group.
Andrew Brammer, head of Allen & Overy’s Support Service Centre in Belfast said: “We’ve been impressed by the calibre of the graduates on the course and early on we committed to interviewing all candidates upon completion with a view to filling our needs.
“We invested our knowledge in the course to help establish a pool of talent with the skills needed to develop successful careers in the legal sector and support our business goals. It’s not just about creating great Allen & Overy employees, but equipping people with the knowhow that can also benefit the Community.”
Thompson Keating, director of corporate and economic development at SERC said: “SERC is committed to working with businesses and providing training in response to their needs. This course is a powerful demonstration of how further education colleges and the private sector are working together to support employment and economic development.”
