Work at the heart of the Northern Ireland Assembly!
The Northern Ireland Assembly Commission is currently recruiting for a number of positions.
As the devolved legislature for Northern Ireland, the Assembly is responsible for making laws on issues such as health, the economy, agriculture, the environment, housing and justice. It also examines and challenges the work of Ministers and Northern Ireland Executive departments.
The Northern Ireland Assembly Commission is the corporate body that supports the work of the Northern Ireland Assembly and is looking for people to join its team.
There are a wide range of opportunities within the Commission, from supporting Assembly Committees examining the work of Ministers, to roles in Finance, Human Resources, looking after Parliament Buildings, Research and Library, and the Official Report (known as Hansard).
The roles offer an attractive package of salary, pension and holiday entitlement as well as a comprehensive learning and development programme in which all staff are encouraged to take part. Family-friendly policies, including part-time working, job-sharing and flexi-time, allow staff to balance work and family or personal commitments.
Stormont Estate offers excellent transport links from the city centre as well as a range of parking facilities.
Current vacancies within the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission include an opportunity for a Clerk Assistant and for Research Officers, with a number of further recruitment competitions expected to come later this year.
The role of the Clerk Assistant is a senior role within the Assembly. Clerk Assistants help to manage and oversee the way the Assembly carries out its responsibilities. As senior officials, they provide advice to office holders including the Speaker, Deputy Speakers, Committee Chairs, MLAs, the Clerk/Chief Executive and other senior managers. The salary on offer for the Clerk Assistant position is £70,422 – £72,548 per annum.
As part of a wide-ranging and interesting role, Research Officers help Committees by providing impartial research that can be used to improve proposed legislation. Research Officers also carry out work for individual MLAs on issues such as deprivation and economic growth in their local area. Typically, Research Officers have an interest and expertise in particular areas, for example, social justice, economics, health and the environment. Research Officers will be paid £44,601 – £45,947 per annum.
