NIW creates 16 new posts

17th September 2013

ONE of Northern Ireland’s leading utility companies is creating 16 new posts.
NI Water, responsible for the delivery of all water and sewerage services across the province, has announced six engineering graduate opportunities and a further 10 operational apprenticeships across the organisation.
Chief Executive Trevor Haslett said: “NI Water recognises that our people are our most valuable asset and we need the right mix of experienced colleagues and new graduates and apprentices who will become the managers and leaders of the future.
“The creation of these 16 new positions, supported by comprehensive training and development programmes, underlines our commitment to maintaining and bolstering a world class workforce.”
The company is seeking qualified civil, mechanical and electrical engineers within engineering procurement and asset management directorates. Graduates, according to NI Water, will be given a comprehensive two-year development opportunity as they work towards chartered engineering status, with opportunities to apply and develop their technical skills.
They will also complete a commercially focused placement and deliver engineering solutions in response to detailed projects.
Completion of the apprenticeship programme will see apprentices attaining NVQ Level 2 in Water Operations. Alongside the qualification they will also gain valuable team-working and decision making skills.
Engineering graduates must have a 2:2 Honours degree classification in Civil Engineering or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering. Apprentice applicants must have two GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and maths at grade C or above, be willing to work towards and to attain a NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Water Operations and have a basic understanding of IT applications.
