OVER 30 new high salary jobs are set to be created with the expansion of a leading legal firm.
The law firm, Axiom will be expanding its Centre of Excellence in Belfast with the opening of a new 3,00 square foot office. In addition it is expected that up to 40 quality, new jobs will be in place within the next six months.
Welcoming the announcement Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster said:
“The fact that Axiom will have recruited so much of its staff within 12 months of opening is testament to the quality of both experienced lawyers and law graduates in Northern Ireland. It also reaffirms Axiom’s decision to choose Northern Ireland over other locations. These are high quality positions with salaries well above the Northern Ireland private sector median, contributing almost £4million a year to the local economy.â€Â?
She continued: “Axiom’s continued commitment to Northern Ireland through its plans for further hiring and office growth into 2013 reinforces the message that Belfast is a good place to do business. Invest Northern Ireland will continue to work with Axiom to support it in its plans.â€Â?
Also commenting on the news, Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry said:
“I welcome this news, which reinforces that Northern Ireland has graduates with the skills needed by potential investors. Through the Assured Skills programme, my Department has also engaged directly with Axiom over the last year. This will shortly result in the delivery of bespoke training developed in conjunction with the higher education sector.”
Meanwhile, a project to raise awareness among employers of the issues in the workplace affecting those who are gay, lesbian and bisexual has been launched.
Minister Farry officially launched the Rainbow Project and highlighted the benefits it will bring to local businesses.
Research has shown that businesses that foster diversity do better in terms of productivity and growth with higher staff retention rates. It has also indicated that the UK has lost millions in previous years due to people off with work-related stress attributed to workplace bullying.
The Minister said: “I am pleased to launch this significant awareness raising project. Promoting greater equality and diversity, especially if seen as an intrinsic part of the ethos and culture of an organisation, can lead not only to improved productivity and growth, but to fostering a culture of tolerance and respect.â€Â?
The Minister continued: “I have no doubt that the continued hard work of the Rainbow Project will make a difference to many lives in Northern Ireland by changing perceptions, breaking down barriers and ensuring that the Northern Ireland workforce is of the highest calibre.
“I am committed to ensuring that the workplace is a safe and open place for people from all backgrounds to be who they are and to feel free from discrimination. In order to achieve the goal of a shared society, we must embrace diversity and ensure that there are no barriers to the full participation of people who are gay, lesbian and bisexual in the workplace.â€Â?
